Good morning, my friends. We're just a few days away from Halloween. Are you ready? Halloween is a non-event at our house. This will be our 23rd Halloween in this house, and we've never had a single trick-or-treater. It used to be fun when the boys were younger, and we figured out costumes for them. We also had a pumpkin carving evening, but no more. I miss those days.
My yesterday started with slow-stitching. As expected I finished up the first of two blocks I'm making for "The Story of My Day." It still needs borders. This ...

read moreThis has been a productive week in the sewing department! I finished quilting the potato chip quilt I made for the local hospice. I used the cut offs from the backing to make the binding, remembering after I had machine stitched it to the front of the quilt that it needed to be machine stitched down, not hand stitched as I usually do. Oops! This is because the quilts for the hospice will be washed and dried by machine often and the binding will stay on better if machine stitched. I did not want to un-sew all of the binding ...
Good morning, my friends! We're nearly halfway through the month. How's everyone doing out there? It's been a busy weekend here, and we're not finished yet. The kids are coming for dinner tonight, and so I've been busy in the kitchen. Before I did anything else yesterday, though, I spent some time with my slow-stitching. I'd missed it the day before. Now October's block for "Joy in the Ordinary" is finished.

My husband and I just got home from three weeks in the US southwest. We flew to Tucson, AZ, rented a car, visited National Parks and other sites in Arizona, Utah, Colorado and New Mexico, and then took the Amtrak Southwest Chief (train) from Albuquerque, NM to Chicago. The next train, the Pere Marquette, took us from Chicago to Grand Rapids, where we picked up our car and drove home. I will share pictures of the highlights of our trip over the next few weeks--I have not had time to go through all of my pictures (over 4000!) yet. We ...
read moreGood morning, my friends. It's a lovely October day here in the Pacific Northwest. I told Mike yesterday I think this is the best time of the year here. On the other hand, I say that about all the seasons, with the possible exception of winter. On the other, other hand, I'm actually happy with the winter rain and snow. It's good sewing weather. The darkness is my only beef with winter weather.
The dahlias are making the most of their final days. As I've mentioned, the Firefighter dahlia is the most watched thing in the ...

read moreGood morning, my friends. Yesterday's activities made up for the previous day's inactivity. There were several things on my to-do list, and I managed to get through it all. The weeding isn't finished, and I'll have to do some more today. I think by the end of today's session, it'll be good to go until next spring.
While I was out yesterday, I took a few pictures of the things that are still blooming. There isn't much, but the echinacea continues to brighten its corner of the garden.

Once again, the Oxford Quilt Guild is making placemats for Meals on Wheels recipients for distribution at Christmas. They are due at our December meeting but I decided to get going on mine right away and get them done! I dug into my fabric stash to see what I had--so many possibilities! We are to make one side Wintery and the other side to be used for the rest of the year. So far, I have put together and quilted six placemats--the binding will go on this week.
read moreToday, Christine and I attended a Barn Quilt Block class in Palmyra, Ontario at the Crazy 8 Barn. I have wanted to make a Barn Quilt for our backyard for ages. There were two blocks available to choose from and we each chose a different one. The class started at 9am and we left for home around 5pm so it was an all day project.
Good morning, my friends. It was a fairly easy-going day yesterday...at least, it started that way. There was almost nothing on my to-do list. I don't know about you, but I tend to work better under pressure. When I find myself with too much time on my hands, it ends up as wasted time. It's a little like giving a kid a dollar and telling them they can pick any candy bar they want. There are so many choices, it's difficult to make a decision. And so when I find myself with free time, I can ...
